Our challenge

The world's natural resources are finite and while fossil fuels power so much of the world's industries, new sources and technologies are required to secure a more sustainable future. Phycoworks is at the forefront of harnessing algae and helping companies grow and scale their algae production through AI-powered technologies to provide new chemicals and materials for food production, packaging, and heavy industry. The Phycoworks team had previously developed a brand but as their business was evolving they were looking to update their approach to better illustrate their unique blend of biology and computational engineering.

Uniting biology and technology

The Phycoworks team wanted to make it clear that they were a platform that could unite a fragmented market around a common approach to optimizing algae production. This blend of biological processes with advanced AI and computational technologies gave us the inspiration to develop a new identity that blends the natural forms of nature with the future-focused aspects of technological evolution.

Visualizing two worlds

Building on the ambition of the business and Phycoworks team we developed an identity that spoke to their natural, sustainably led focus combined with deeply technical consideration for key audience's expectations and intended outputs. The natural blues, greens, and yellows of the color palette are paired with a simple san-serif typeface to contrast the warmth of nature with the clarity of technology. The visual language goes further pairing natural imagery overlaid with precise line work with detailed technical illustration to illustrate the merging of the natural and technological.

Articulating impact through web

Taking the theme of blending worlds through the web we designeda site that utilizes a singular design approach where sections naturally flow into one another rather than creating defined breaks between content. The site encourages users to delve deeper and learn more about the technology, approach, and proposition. The extensive use of color, photography, and illustrations speaks to the progress the team is making and their deep connection to the natural world.
