Bits in Bio

Bits in Bio is a global community operating at the intersection of software and the life sciences, connecting computational experts with life scientists to accelerate innovation across drug discovery, synthetic biology, and precision medicine. With 5,000+ active members across 15+ cities worldwide, the organization serves as a neutral, non-profit platform bringing together diverse professionals from big biopharma to bioeconomy newcomers. Bits in Bio approached Wunderdogs needing to develop a new brand identity to match their growing influence as the foremost organization in computational biology.
They needed a brand that could unite techies curious about biology with life scientists exploring computational tools, while maintaining their reputation as a trusted, mission-driven community.
Branding the bioeconomy
Wunderdogs developed a visual identity that embodied "software in the biosphere", emphasizing the intersection of computational thinking and biological innovation. The refreshed brand retained the organization's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility while elevating their professional credibility among established industry players.
The new identity balanced playfulness with scientific rigor, incorporating elements that could support their vision of weekly cartoons and character-driven content while maintaining the gravitas needed for serious bioeconomy discussions. We created a flexible system that worked across their diverse touchpoints, from casual city meetups led by Lead Captains to formal learning sessions with industry experts.
Designing a home for the global community
The website strategy centered on showcasing Bits in Bio as the definitive umbrella organization for the bioeconomy community. We designed user journeys that accommodated their broad spectrum of members: from complete newcomers seeking entry points into computational biology to established professionals looking for cutting-edge insights and networking opportunities.
Built on Webflow for easy content management by the community team, the site emphasizes connection and knowledge-sharing while highlighting their unique position as an independent, non-commercial platform. The architecture supports their diverse content strategy, from job postings and mentorship opportunities to learning resources and event promotion across their global network of cities.
A welcoming guide at the intersection of tech and bio
The refreshed brand successfully positioned Bits in Bio as both approachable and authoritative, supporting their mission to accelerate the bioeconomy through inclusive community building. By striking the right balance between casual accessibility and professional credibility, the new identity enables them to continue growing their global network while maintaining the authentic, mission-driven culture that attracts diverse talent to computational biology.

We are really happy with the results, they are better than I had imagined. We gave only high level creative direction and it ended up working out really well.
President, Bits in Bio
